In 2002, Wellspring released 'Benediction' as a response to many requests for a recording of the instrumental blessings that have become a feature of our concerts. For these blessings the musicians spread out and improvise amongst the audience. The improvisations are usually based on sacred songs from a variety of styles and 'Benediction' has proved to be an enduring favourite, with listeners continuing to ask for more in a similar style.
So, we offer you 'Sanctuary', and our desire is that you too may be refreshed, encouraged and receive hope through listening to this recording, praying that God may bring you to a place of peace and stillness with Him.
As with 'Benediction' we have sought to recreate the sense of being surrounded by the musicians so being caught up and enveloped in the offering of music, and with the advent of surround sound on the DVD version of

Rest in God's presence with this beautiful instrumental album featuring improvisations around well known spiritual songs.
At the end of our concerts, the classical musicians in Wellspring play a ‘blessing’, where the instrumentalists spread out amongst the audience, and improvise together on a sacred theme.
In response to many requests for recordings of these ‘blessings’, we have produced “Benediction”, and have sought to re-create that sense of being surrounded by the musicians and so being “caught up” in that offering of music. Often people say to us that they have been refreshed, encouraged, healed or brought closer to God as they have listened to these improvisations.
Over the many years that we’ve been together we’ve often ‘stepped out on the water’ and improvised pieces which we have hoped would be a blessing to those who are listening. Some of the tracks are instrumental versions of sacred songs, some are original compositions, – and some were completely improvised at the time of recording!

It takes us a while to grasp that there are seasons of life; great periods of
activity followed by stillness and solitude; times of weeping, despair, and
loneliness- and times of elation, joy and healing.
Life is full of changes. Managing
those changes is hard work and full of hazards but knowing who you are and where
you’re going is the key.
In
recent years, I’ve been privileged to be able to sing the occasional solo song
at conferences, services and special events where people have been very gracious
to say how much it has meant to them, you know... that special song which
‘cuts’ through every day life to speak to the heart.
Many of the songs here in this collection do just that (because you’ve told us) as they reflect the joys and sorrows of life with the deep yearnings and longings we all have. (I can’t forget the first time I heard ‘Father’s Song’ in the car and sat sobbing outside my house for ages......and as for ‘Wonderful World’.......!).
There are some very familiar songs & hymns and one or two that are brand new
which I hope you grow to love and enjoy. We couldn’t fit all of them on one
album but hopefully you’ll find a gem amongst them.

Christmas is a time of joy and great celebration but where would we be without festive music? The Wellspring Ensemble Christmas Concerts are for many, the official start to the Christmas season, making them very popular! These concerts have been marked by their wide variety of music and by the many different solo artists who have appeared with us: singers, trumpeters, oboists, flautists, harpists, horn players....and so on.
The music we like to present is a celebration of all styles and periods - always with a touch of fun! One of our concert highlights has been the series of pieces arranged for us by Peter Richards which have included medleys of well-known Christmas tunes, carols and original compositions. Often we’ve been asked ‘when are you going to record Peter’s pieces?’ This album is partially a response to that question and partially a desire to celebrate all that’s wonderful about Christmas, especially, the good news of ‘Emmanuel’ - God coming to live among us in the person of Jesus.
This new recording features many favourites such as 'Walking in the Air' from 'The Snowman' by Howard Blake, 'Greensleeves' by Vaughan Williams, 2 songs sung by Sally Thornton ('Christmas Child', 'Breath of Heaven') and another sung by Catherine Swinford-White ('Ding Dong Merrily on High'). There are also some wonderful Christmas medleys written/arranged by Peter Richards (as featured in Wellspring Ensemble Christmas concerts over the last few years) plus a couple of Wellspring jazz numbers.

Ancient Paths includes some of the most sublime masterpieces ever written for string ensemble.
