The Wellspring Ensemble

The Wellspring Ensemble is the classical wing of the worship group Wellspring who are an interdenominational group aiding the rediscovery of the creative arts within the church. Many of the members of Wellspring are freelance professional musicians playing with orchestras and ensembles throughout the UK and Europe including the English Chamber Orchestra, the Manchester Camerata, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, BBC Philharmonic etc. Many of the players regularly play for various programmes on BBC 1, such as "Songs of Praise"; Radio 3 and "The Daily Service" on Radio 4.
The Ensemble have performed at international arts festivals in Sweden and Bulgaria and have also given many concerts throughout the UK - from West Kilbride in Scotland, Southwell, Notts., to Harpenden Herts. They have performed at the Bramhall Music Festival and in 1999 took part in 'Haydn Fest' at the Royal Northern College of Music. In the same year they also took a major role in an International Arts Festival in Kunming, China, following their successful tour to Bulgaria in 1994. Also in 1999 they performed in the lunchtime 'Bite Music' series of concerts at Manchester's prestigious Bridgewater Hall.

The ensemble has released several recordings, including 'Ancient Paths', 'Benediction' and our latest recording 'Sanctuary'. See our recordings page for more details.
Wellspring Ensemble concerts are characterised by varied and entertaining programmes interspersed with humour. They always end their concerts with an improvised 'blessing' where the musicians move amongst the audience to play. Their repertoire is extensive and varied - it can include everything from smaller chamber music works to larger chamber orchestra size works.
